Syncing your mobile music with FM transmitter can be fun!

There have been quite a few conversations around N78 having or not having FM transmitter support. Well, let me clear it out once and for all. Nokia’s N78 supports FM transmitter in India.

Before I go on to explain it further, here’s a demonstration of how it works. Mind you, this is meant for Indian market considering that FM transmitter could not be used initially due to FM transmitter.

Simple steps:

How to get FM Transmitter?

For the Indian market: Get a simple firmware update which can be done from your phone itslef. Trust me it’s a cake walk. Thanks to Nokia’s Firmware Update (OTA). A new firmware over-the-air which you can easily grab for free, just navigate your handset – Menu>Tools>Utilities>Device Manager>Options and check for an update. Once found, it will automatically prompt you to update the firmware to v12.046.

Once your firmware update is done, it will automatically ask you to switch off your mobile phone. Just to be in the safer side, make sure that you have taken your data back up. Also, your phone should be fully charged before you start updating the firmware.

After the firmware update, you can go to your music folder and you will find FM Transmitter there. In case you are still unable to detect in your music folder, you can simply get your settings checked at your nearest Nokia Center.

How to use FM transmitter on your N78?

Go on to your music folder on N78.

Select FM Transmitter, Activate your FM Transmitter. It will automatically provide you the option. On activating the FM Transmitter, it will ask you to tune the frequency of your music system to a radio station.

So, let’s say it asks you to tune your music system to 107.05 MHz and the moment you match the frequency of your N78 with your system you can start syncing your music. Make sure that you don’t end up choosing a used frequency (meaning an existing radio station), you need to choose an empty frequency while tuning into your system. I used 107.5 mhz and it worked.

Go to your playlist, choose the song you want to listen to and play. From here on, you can use your regular media key functionalities available on N78 to pause, change the song or artist.

Try it. It’s awesome and damn convenient! I have been using it regularly with my car stereo and home theater.

Here are some screen shots for you. Try it out and share your experience.
