N78 Video Review

October 8, 2008

Ritu From Fonearena did an informative Video Review of N78, where she did a nice walkthrough of the device. N78 being the first Nseries phone to have the new S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 platform, sports a new and improved user interface which is highlighted in detail in the review.

Not to be missed the “Heartbeat of N78” (as Ritu fondly calls it) in the end of the review.

Syncing your mobile music with FM transmitter can be fun!

September 26, 2008

There have been quite a few conversations around N78 having or not having FM transmitter support. Well, let me clear it out once and for all. Nokia’s N78 supports FM transmitter in India.

Before I go on to explain it further, here’s a demonstration of how it works. Mind you, this is meant for Indian market considering that FM transmitter could not be used initially due to FM transmitter.

Simple steps:

How to get FM Transmitter?

For the Indian market: Get a simple firmware update which can be done from your phone itslef. Trust me it’s a cake walk. Thanks to Nokia’s Firmware Update (OTA). A new firmware over-the-air which you can easily grab for free, just navigate your handset – Menu>Tools>Utilities>Device Manager>Options and check for an update. Once found, it will automatically prompt you to update the firmware to v12.046.

Once your firmware update is done, it will automatically ask you to switch off your mobile phone. Just to be in the safer side, make sure that you have taken your data back up. Also, your phone should be fully charged before you start updating the firmware.

After the firmware update, you can go to your music folder and you will find FM Transmitter there. In case you are still unable to detect in your music folder, you can simply get your settings checked at your nearest Nokia Center.

How to use FM transmitter on your N78?

Go on to your music folder on N78.

Select FM Transmitter, Activate your FM Transmitter. It will automatically provide you the option. On activating the FM Transmitter, it will ask you to tune the frequency of your music system to a radio station.

So, let’s say it asks you to tune your music system to 107.05 MHz and the moment you match the frequency of your N78 with your system you can start syncing your music. Make sure that you don’t end up choosing a used frequency (meaning an existing radio station), you need to choose an empty frequency while tuning into your system. I used 107.5 mhz and it worked.

Go to your playlist, choose the song you want to listen to and play. From here on, you can use your regular media key functionalities available on N78 to pause, change the song or artist.

Try it. It’s awesome and damn convenient! I have been using it regularly with my car stereo and home theater.

Here are some screen shots for you. Try it out and share your experience.

Lifetracking Rannvijay with Nokia N78!!!

September 15, 2008

Hey “All N78 and Rannvijay” fans!

The long wait is finally over, here is the much awaited and talked about Rannvijay video. He’s toying with the N78 and mind you he’s quite clued on to the device.

Well, did we mention the latest to you, Rannvijay himself is an N78 user and personally quite happy with the device. (Catch his statement in the Video)

Catch a sneak peak of how the Roadies Champ uses Sportstracker to make a trail on Nokia N78 during a lazy walk at Hotel Claridges, New Delhi. Also catch a glimpse of the pictures he clicked during this activity.

So all those who thought that bikes and women are Rannvijay’s only passion, think again! He definitley comes across as a techie who’s also quite passionate about new mobile apps and doing more with his multimedia device.

And dont be surprised, if you happen to see a task around Sportstracker in Roadies 6.0, you would know where he got the idea from 😉

Track Your Life With Sportstracker

September 11, 2008

If you get stuck in a jam more often than not then probably you could be more careful next time.

You can record your daily routes and compare the distance you covered vs. speed and time you spent covering that route and this way you will know which routes took you longer so that you can avoid them next time for sure.

Nope, you don’t need a traffic record machine. All you need is Sportstracker.

Sportstracker allows you to record you location, speed, time and the distance you covered and tag them using any Nokia GPS phone. You can upload your trails directly from your phone. You will need GPRS connectivity or you can even use WiFi if you are near to one. The first device it was preloaded with was the N78

With Sportstracker, you can add media to your trails which gets automatically tagged at the place of capture, making it a sort of a personal diary or an album of your adventures, sharing of which can be customized as per your requirements.

What’s more is that you can extend it to other Social Networks such as Facebook, iGoogle, netvibes and eblogger.

Here’s how it looks.

How to go about it.

On your PC

Go onto http://www.sportstracker.nokia.com & download Nokia Sports Tracker! If you are N78 user, you will find the application preloaded in your phone

t

Register yourself on the site. And you are all ready to roll.

Add your friends, create your workouts, share your media, change settings, view other people’s trails live on sportstracker etc.

On your Mobile

If you don’t have Sportstracker preloaded on your phone, then you can download the latest version compatible with your phone at http://www.sportstracker.nokia.com/nts/download.

Below from 1 to 6 is the Sportstracker activity on your mobilescreen.

               1                              2                          3

                     4                            5                              6

Go to the Applications in your phone and open Sportsracker. You will view (Screen 1). Customize the Settings first. Click on General Settings; define an Access Point to configure the data connection. Click on User and provide your Sportstracker user name and other personal details.

Now, select New Workout (Screen 1) from options given like walking, cycling, running etc. or customize an activity by selecting others and choosing an activity like ‘Driving Car’.

After that select Live Sharing, it will ask you to Pair with Service in which you have to provide the Username and Password you created the Sportstracker account with. It will log you on to the service and now you can choose from the options ‘No, To Friends and To Everybody’ deciding, to whom do you want the workout to be visible.

As you move under a clear sky, you will get a GPS Fix. Click on Start to begin with the activity and you are all ready to roll with Sportsracker. Speed Indication, time to travel, distance covered & route map would be shown on screen (Screen 2).

It automatically divides the information into laps.(Screen 3)

If you want to add media to your workout, simply start the Camera without shutting off the workout. Click Pictures, Make Videos, Record Sounds.

Once you are through with the workout, click on Stop. The same will be recorded in you Training Diary. Click on the Training Diary, it would open the calendar. Days on which workouts have been carried would show a Blue (Screen 4). Clicking on a particular date would open the saved activities tab.

Click on a particular activity to check the details. For e.g. Joe Average drove for 3.02 kms with a top speed of 52.5 km/hr (Screen 5)

Use the scroll key to check the other graphs. Route Map, Altitude vs. distance, Speed vs. distance, speed vs. time. (Screen 6)

Post opening the activity, click on Options Upload to Service. Define with whom you want to share this activity of yours. Once the activity gets uploaded, a confirmation message would be displayed on screen.

Workout Media: Searches the photographs that you would have clicked during your activity. Post searching, it will ask if you would want to upload the workout media, click on Yes again to upload your photographs to the sportstracker website.

Saved activity can also be saved as a Route. You can use this route to guide other friends as well. Provide name of the route for eg. work to office etc, day trip to the mountains

Now log on to Sportstracker Website. Provide your User name and Password and click on the Dashboard option. Choose the Workout and you can easily view the trail you created on the map and the Media uploaded alongside.

Add Description to you workout and media associated. Share with friends and rest of the people using sportstracker.

If you click on the Community tab on the top right of your computer screen. You can check who all are ‘live’ right now or even search for a friend. Click on the User to view its complete trail. Click on the Photograph icon to see the photograph that the user has taken.

So guys, if you have any further queries about the application you can ask us here. And do share your Sportsracker Experience with us by sending a link of your Dashboard and your travel story associated with it. You can share it with us through the comments section of our blog or logging on to our Official N78 page on Facebook.
